Passive RFID Baby Tagging System

The Infant Protection Bracelet is a rechargeable miniature active long-range Radio Frequency (RFID) and Infrared device which provides 24/7 infant supervision by tracking the real-time location of newborn babies in maternity wards.

The Infant Protection Bracelet automatically protects against unauthorised bracelet removal via an anti-tamper alert, and notifies any attempted removal from the maternity ward when the baby approaches protected exits without proper supervision.

Each Infant Protection Bracelet is made up of a small shockproof, water-resistant baby tag and a latex-free, adjustable, disposable attachment kit.

Arrow shows how the tag and anklet band is fitted. The key is placed in the top of the tag and when rotated it closes around babies ankle. If a newborn baby loses weight the bracelet can be adjusted to ensure correct fitting.

Tag details

The baby tag is an active radio frequency (RF) transmitter that is worn around the baby's ankle. The device emits low power, beacon type RF messages as well as infrared (IR) messages. IR can be used to identify the exact real-time location of the tagged baby using infrared readers. The tags hibernation power management protects its internal rechargeable battery from total discharge. A fully charged battery will typically last up to a week before requiring recharge. The tags battery level is monitored and the software system generates a low battery alert when required.

Software

The user interface will be viewable on the user workstation or on the security workstation. Depending on the option selected the display will show baby status of current alarms. Alarms are displayed using pop ups and/or sound alarms where appropriate and remain visible until 'Acknowledged' by user. The current alarms are displayed in a list view sorted in descending alarm level. High-level alarms are displayed in red. The screen will show baby details including Hospital number and baby name, alarm description and time of alarm.
